Fantasy Baseball StockWatch: Rays 2B Tim Beckham
Here’s someone even the best fantasy baseball geeks have probably written off: Rays prospect Tim Beckham.
You remember the 18-year-old Beckham chosen No. 1 overall by the Rays in the 2008 draft instead of guys like Buster Posey, Gerrit Cole, Pedro Alvarez, Ike Davis, Andrew Cashner… well you get the idea.
Anyway, the Rays had said from the beginning that he was a raw talent who would take quite a while to develop. While he may never justify the top overall selection, the kid’s 25 years old now and is finally looking like he could develop into a solid major-leaguer. He has five multi-hit games already.
His minor-league numbers are generally underwhelming, but he has a double-digit HR and SB season under his belt and has largely been hampered by various injuries as well.
We have moved him up in our in-season fantasy baseball rankings, and we’re recommending he’s worth a stash in most leagues, but certainly needs to be picked up in all keeper-leagues.
