Fantasy fallout: Tyler White
Fantasy fallout: Tyler White
With Yulieski Gurriel out until at least late April, Tyler White stands a chance to get some playing time at first base in the early going. He will now compete with A.J. Reed and J.D. Davis to break camp at least sharing time with likely primary fill-in Marwin Gonzalez.
White has been very productive over the past two seasons, splitting time between Triple-A and Houston. He hit 13 homers in just 44 games at Triple-A in 2016 before getting an extended shot with the Astros, where he started out hot before slumping to a .217 BA, 24 R, 8 HR, 28 RBIs, 1 SB in 276 PA. Last year he spent most of the season in Triple-A, where he hit .300 with 25 homers in 111 games before a successful stint with Houston (.279 BA, 3 HR in 67 PA).
On days where Marwin gets a day off at first base or a start in the outfield, White stands to get an opportunity if he can have a big spring training. This makes him an interesting sleeper pick in AL-only leagues.
