DFS pitchers for May 31
We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.
We’re jumping in late today, choosing just from the two late games:
Odrisamer Despaigne: The soft-tossing Padres righty has a career 2.91 ERA at home compared to a 5.22 on the road. The problem is that most of that good work at Petco Park came last year when he had a 1.83 ERA in San Diego as this year he’s at 5.40 at home. Despaigne had a 1.43 ERA through his first five appearances this season before a dismal three-game stretch where he allowed 19 runs in 9.2 innings (17.69 ERA). He has since bounced back with two straight quality starts with a 1.50 ERA and a 9-2 K-BB in 12 innings. He’s facing the Pirates, who rank 21st in OPS on the road, so we like Despaigne as the bargain-basement price of $5,700. Using him allowed us to load up with stars like Mike Trout, Andrew McCutchen and Justin Upton.
David Price: The Tigers lefty is the highest-priced of the late-game pitchers at $10,800 but there aren’t that many expensive hitters to choose from so you might as well use the best pitcher available. He faces an Angels lineup that struggles to score runs and has a hobbled Albert Pujols (groin). We were tempted to take his opponent, Matt Shoemaker, but he has a tougher lineup to face and is the lesser pitcher despite the $7,800 price.
