DFS pitchers for May 3
We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.
Joe Kelly: The Red Sox flame-thrower is averaging 96.5 mph on his fastball (ranks No. 2 in MLB) and 10.7 K/9, yet is still flying a bit under the radar due to a 4.94 ERA and career 6.4 K/9. This is the time to get on board before the price goes up – $5,300 today at home against the Yankees is a steal. The Yanks are starting Adam Warren, so the Red Sox should be able to pull out a win here to go along with a healthy number of strikeouts for Kelly.
James Shields: The Padres ace is a must for late-game contests, priced at $9,900 for a home start against the Rockies. Shields has been sensational in his first season with San Diego at 2-0 with a 2.90 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. As long as you pair Shields with Kelly or another cheap option, you’ll have enough cap space left to use some stars like Buster Posey, Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Mike Trout.
With so few options in the late game, the only others that are really tempting are Jered Weaver for $7,500 and Tim Lincecum for $6,900 since they should each benefit from starting in pitcher-friendly San Francisco.
