DFS pitchers for April 23
We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.
We didn’t make our picks until only the late games remain, but here’s what we’ve got today:
Jake Odorizzi: Already with just a 1.74 ERA and 0.70 WHIP, it won’t be long and the Rays burgeoning young stud will cost a lot more than the $8,200 he’s priced at today. Odorizzi will get to face a Red Sox lineup without Hanley Ramirez, who’s getting a day off, or Shane Victorino, whose hamstring has flared up. Odorizzi could be this year’s Corey Kluber, as he has a tremendous array of quality pitches, led by a changeup that ranks among the MLB’s best.
Chris Sale: There were just enough cheap sleeper bats to pair with Sale’s high price point ($11,000) and we didn’t feel confident enough in the cheaper pitching options, so the White Sox ace it is. He has a tough opponent in Yordano Ventura and the Royals, but Ventura hasn’t been lights out or lasted deep into games.
We’re stacking our lineups from the A’s-Angels and Orioles-Blue Jays games. The A’s are starting Jesse Chavez out of the bullpen as a fill-in for Jesse Han and the Angels are giving a start to Nick Tropeano. The Orioles send Chris Tillman to the mound and the Blue Jays start Drew Hutchison, neither of whom is off to a good start. We especially like Stephen Vogt, Ike Davis, Devon Travis and Jimmy Parades (dirt cheap at $2,000).
